TAKE ACTION: Contact your Senators about BOP "Total Lockdown"
On June 1, 2020, the federal Bureau of Prisons announced it had instituted a “total lockdown” of all BOP facilities in response to on-going public protests for racial justice throughout the country, despite a lack of unrest within the prisons. This unconscionable move came on the heels of an almost 500% increase in the numbers of incarcerated people nationwide facing solitary confinement as a result of responses by Departments of Corrections to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new Unlock the Box report, Solitary is Never the Answer.
Contact your Senators today to urge them to make clear to Attorney General Barr that the federal Bureau of Prisons "total lockdown" in response to public protest was immoral and that it must never happen again.

-- Just Mercy, which is available now for purchase or rental on streaming services. Just Mercy is based on the story of Bryan Stevenson, a Harvard educated lawyer who has devoted his life to representing the wrongfully accused who have been sentenced to death.
-- The Report, now streaming on Amazon Prime. The Report is the story of the U.S. post-9/11 CIA torture program, and the political drama of the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation which led to the U.S. passing new laws banning torture in 2015. NRCAT advocated for an end to U.S. torture throughout the period depicted in the film, and was a key part of this victory. The Report has graphic scenes of torture, so it's not suitable for young children.
