TAKE ACTION: Stop the Spread of COVID-19 in Prisons and Jails
As of the end of July, more than 10,500 people incarcerated by the federal Bureau of Prisons have already tested positive since the pandemic began, a rate of 5 times the general population. Also, people in prison are 3 times more likely to die of COVID-19 than the general population.
Please write to your Members of Congress and ask that the next stimulus bill includes all the proposed language that would help stop this health pandemic from needlessly taking the lives of incarcerated people and those who work in our nation's jails and prisons.

Movie Night? Here are two social justice-themed movies we recommend for a movie night at your house:
-- Just Mercy, which is available now for purchase or rental on streaming services. Just Mercy is based on the story of Bryan Stevenson, a Harvard educated lawyer who has devoted his life to representing the wrongfully accused who have been sentenced to death.
-- The Report, now streaming on Amazon Prime. The Report is the story of the U.S. post-9/11 CIA torture program, and the political drama of the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation which led to the U.S. passing new laws banning torture in 2015. NRCAT advocated for an end to U.S. torture throughout the period depicted in the film, and was a key part of this victory. The Report has graphic scenes of torture, so it's not suitable for young children.
